TYPES OF
HAZARD/
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS/
SYMPTOMS
PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Highly flammable. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking.
Powder, AFFF, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Vapour/air mixtures are explosive. Risk of fire and explosion on contact with incompatible materials: see Chemical Dangers.
Closed system, ventilation, explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting. Do NOT use compressed air for filling, discharging, or handling.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.

EXPOSURE
STRICT HYGIENE!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
INHALATION Cough. Sore throat. Headache. Dizziness. Abdominal cramps. Burning sensation. Vomiting. Laboured breathing. Unconsciousness.
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration if indicated. Refer for medical attention.
SKIN MAY BE ABSORBED! Redness. Burning sensation. Pain. Deep bone ache (several hours after contact).
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
EYES Redness. Pain. Blurred vision.
Safety goggles, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
INGESTION Abdominal pain. Burning sensation. Vomiting.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Collect leaking liquid in covered containers. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT wash away into sewer (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
Fireproof. Separated from food and feedstuffs and incompatible materials: see chemical dangers. Dry. Keep in the dark.
Airtight. Unbreakable packaging; put breakable packaging into closed unbreakable container. Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS LIQUID , WITH PUNGENT ODOUR.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:
The vapour is heavier than air and may travel along the ground; distant ignition possible.

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance may polymerize due to heating or under the influence of different metals, metal chlorides and sulfuric acid with fire or explosion hazard. On combustion, forms toxic and corrosive fumes (hydrogen chloride - see ICSC # 0163). Reacts violently with strong oxidants and metals such as aluminum, magnesium, zinc, causing fire and explosion hazard. Attacks plastic, rubber and coatings.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
TLV: 1 ppm; 3.0 mg/m3 (as TWA); 2 ppm; 6.0 mg/m3 (as STEL) (ACGIH 1992-1993).

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and through the skin.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Inhalation of the vapour/aerosol may cause lung oedema (see Notes). The substance may cause effects on the kidneys, lungs and the central nervous system , resulting in unconsciousness. The effects may be delayed.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
The substance may have effects on the the liver, kidneys and peripheral nervous system , resulting in numbness and disuse of arms and legs.
PHYSICAL
PROPERTIES
Boiling point: 45°C
Melting point: -135°C
Relative density (water = 1): 0.94
Solubility in water, g/100 ml at 20°C: 0.36
Vapour pressure, kPa at 20°C: 39.3
Relative vapour density (air = 1): 2.6
Relative density of the vapour/air-mixture at 20°C (air = 1): 1.6
Flash point: -32°C (c.c.)°C
Auto-ignition temperature: 390°C
Explosive limits, vol% in air: 2.9-11.2
Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: 1.5 (calculated)
ENVIRONMENTAL
DATA
This substance may be hazardous to the environment; special attention should be given to water.
NOTES
The eye effects may be delayed and may lead to possible impairment of vision. Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated. The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate spray, by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered. The odour warning when the exposure limit value is exceeded is insufficient.
