TYPES OF
HAZARD/
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS/
SYMPTOMS
PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible.
NO open flames. NO contact with flammable substances.
Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Above 79°C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed. Risk of fire and explosion on contact with organic, combustible and reducing materials.
Above 79°C use a closed system, ventilation.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. Combat fire from a sheltered position.

EXPOSURE
PREVENT GENERATION OF MISTS! AVOID ALL CONTACT!

INHALATION Sore throat. Cough. Burning sensation. Shortness of breath. Symptoms may be delayed (see Notes).
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration if indicated. Refer for medical attention.
SKIN Pain. Blisters.
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
First rinse with plenty of water, then remove contaminated clothes and rinse again. Refer for medical attention.
EYES Pain. Redness. Severe deep burns.
Face shield, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
INGESTION Abdominal pain. Burning sensation. Shock or collapse.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting. Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Consult an expert! Collect leaking and spilled liquid in covered containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT absorb in saw-dust or other combustible absorbents (extra personal protection: chemical suit with self-contained breathing apparatus).
Separated from combustible and reducing substances, mineral acids, food and feedstuffs. Cool. Dry.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs. Store only in original packaging.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS TO PALE YELLOW LIQUID , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
May explode on heating at about 150°C. The substance is a strong oxidant and reacts violently with combustible and reducing materials, causing fire and explosion hazard. Contact with cobalt, copper or lead alloys and mineral acids may lead to violent decomposition.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
TLV not established.

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly on spraying.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
Corrosive. The substance is corrosive to the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Corrosive on ingestion. Inhalation of the aerosol of this substance may cause lung oedema (see Notes). The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
PHYSICAL
PROPERTIES
Melting point: -10°C
Relative density (water = 1): 1.05
Solubility in water, g/100 ml: 1.5g/100ml
Vapour pressure, Pa at 20°C: 32
Relative vapour density (air = 1): 5.4
Relative density of the vapour/air-mixture at 20°C (air = 1): 1.0
Flash point: 79°C
Explosive limits, vol% in air: 0.9-6.5
Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: -0.16
ENVIRONMENTAL
DATA

N O T E S
The technical product can contain a certain amount of cumene (10-20%) which changes physical properties. The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate spray, by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered. Rinse contaminated clothes (fire hazard) with plenty of water.
