TYPES OF
HAZARD/
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS/
SYMPTOMS
PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. Liquid formulations containing organic solvents may be flammable. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION The explosion hazard will depend on the solvent used in the formulation.

EXPOSURE
STRICT HYGIENE! AVOID ALL CONTACT! AVOID EXPOSURE OF ADOLESCENTS AND CHILDREN!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
INHALATION Convulsions. Dizziness. Laboured breathing. Nausea. Unconsciousness. Vomiting. Pupillary constriction, muscle cramp, excessive salivation.
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
SKIN MAY BE ABSORBED! (Further see Inhalation).
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
EYES Redness. Pain. Blurred vision.
Face shield, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
INGESTION Abdominal cramps. Diarrhoea. Laboured breathing. Nausea. Unconsciousness. Vomiting. Pupillary constriction, muscle cramps, excessive salivation.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rest. Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT wash away into sewer. (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
Separated from food and feedstuffs, strong oxidants, strong bases. Cool. Keep in a well-ventilated room.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS OR PALE YELLOW LIQUID

PHYSICAL DANGERS:

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating or on burning producing toxic and corrosive fumes including phosphoric acid and phosphorous oxides). Reacts violently with strong oxidants causing fire and explosion hazard. Attacks iron, stainless steel, brass, some forms of plastics, rubber and coatings.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
TLV: 0.01 ppm; 0.092 mg/m3 (as TWA) (skin) (ACGIH 1991-1992).
TLV (as (STEL) ): 0.03 ppm; 0.27 mg/m3 (ACGIH 1991-1992).

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol, through the skin, by ingestion , also as a vapour!

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached rather quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance may cause effects on the nervous system , resulting in convulsions, respiratory failure. Cholinesterase inhibitor. Exposure at high levels may result in death. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Cholinesterase inhibitor; cumulative effect is possible: see acute hazards/symptoms.
PHYSICAL

ENVIRONMENTAL
DATA
This substance may be hazardous to the environment; special attention should be given to bees, birds, fish.
NOTES
Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated. Specific treatment is necessary in case of poisoning with this substance; the appropriate means with instructions must be available. Carrier solvents used in commercial formulations may change physical and toxicological properties. Do NOT take working clothes home. Apavinfos, Duraphos, Fosdrin, Gesfid and Phosdrin are trade names. Recommandations on this card apply to the mixture of cis- and trans- isomers.
