FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Not combustible but forms flammable gas on contact with water or damp air.
NO contact with water.
Carbon dioxide, dry sand. NO hydrous agents. NO water.
EXPLOSION

EXPOSURE
PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST!

  • INHALATION
  • Abdominal pain. Burning sensation. Cough. Dizziness. Dullness. Headache. Laboured breathing. Nausea. Sore throat.
    Ventilation. Breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration if indicated. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • Redness. Pain.
    Protective gloves.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap.
  • EYES
  • Redness. Pain.
    Safety goggles.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • Abdominal pain. Convulsions. Nausea. Unconsciousness. Vomiting.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Large spills should be kept dry. Do NOT wash away into sewer. Sweep spilled substance into sealable containers. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
Should be stored dry in sealed, polyethylene-lined drums. Separated from food and feedstuffs. Keep in a well-ventilated room.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
    YELLOW TO GREEN CRYSTALS.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
Reacts with water, air moisture, violently with acids causing fire and toxic (phosphine fumes) hazard.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
    TLV not established.

    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of powdered material and dust, and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly. Hydrolysis in atmospheric moisture or perspiration may yield gaseous phosphine which can be inhaled.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Possible absorption of phosphine may induce systemic effects: see ICSC # 0694.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
    See ICSC # 0694 (phosphine).

    DATA

    NOTES
Commercial preparations for fumigation usually contains 34% of trimagnesium diphosphide as active ingredient. Reacts violently with fire extinguishing agents such as water. Do NOT take working clothes home. Detiaphos, Magtoxin, Phostoxin Plates, Mag-disc are trade names.
