FIRE Flammable. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking.
Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Above 34°C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed.
Above 34°C use a closed system, ventilation, and explosion-proof electrical equipment.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
 
EXPOSURE
AVOID ALL CONTACT!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
INHALATION Pain. Burning sensation. Cough. Laboured breathing. Shortness of breath. Vomiting. Headache. Unconsciousness.
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration if indicated. Refer for medical attention.
SKIN MAY BE ABSORBED! Pain. Redness. Severe skin burns.
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
First rinse with plenty of water, then remove contaminated clothes and rinse again. Refer for medical attention.
EYES Pain. Blurred vision. Severe deep burns.
Face shield, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
INGESTION Burning sensation. Abdominal cramps. Abdominal pain. Nausea. Vomiting. Unconsciousness.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Collect leaking liquid in sealable containers. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
Fireproof. Separated from strong oxidants, acids, bases, metal powders, aluminium, amines, and many other substances: see Chemical Dangers. Cool. Well closed. Keep seperated from food and feedstuffs.
Unbreakable packaging; put breakable packaging into closed unbreakable container. Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

COLOURLESS LIQUID , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance will polymerize due to heating or under the influence of strong acids, bases and contaminants. On combustion, forms toxic and corrosive fumes (chlorine - see # ICSC 0126 and hydrogen chloride - see ICSC 0163). The substance decomposes slowly on contact with water. Reacts violently with strong oxidants. Reacts violently with aluminium, zinc, metal powders, alcohols, phenols, amines (especially aniline) and organic acids causing fire and explosion hazard. Attacks steel in the presence of water.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
TLV: 2 ppm; 7.6 mg/m3 (skin) (ACGIH 1992-1993).
PDK: 1 mg/m3 (USSR 1986).


ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour and through the skin.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached rather quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C, on spraying much faster.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is corrosive to the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Inhalation of the vapour may cause lung oedema (see Notes). The substance may cause effects on the nervous system. Exposure may result in unconsciousness.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization. Repeated or prolonged inhalation exposure may cause asthma. This substance is probably carcinogenic to humans. May cause genetic damage in humans. May impair male fertility in experimental animals.

NOTES
Other melting points: -25°C and -57°C. Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated. The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate spray, by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered. Anyone who has shown symptoms of asthma due to this substance should never again come into contact with this substance.
